    Act of kindness: EPPD officer purchases groceries for bishop’s father

    An El Paso police officer is being praised for a small act of kindness captured on video. The officer, Manny Alvarez, was working an off-duty job at the Walmart at 10727 Gateway Blvd. W. on Tuesday when he purchased groceries for Diocese of El Paso Bishop Mark J. Seitz’s father at around 9:30 p.m.

    A man died in El Paso police custody Monday after a taser was used on him as he was resisting arrest. According to police, witnesses reported seeing the man attempting to break into the Lunch Box in the 3600 block of Buckner around 5:40 p.m. Monday. A responding officer commanded the man to stop, but he forced the door of the business open and ran inside, police said.

    An El Paso police officer has been arrested after he shot a man outside the "Tap Bar" in downtown El Paso. The officer arrested was identified on Friday as 34-year-old Anthony Greer. Crime Against Persons detectives and the Texas Rangers determined that the victim did not present a serious threat of injury or death to the officer.

Richard Allbee died in a head-on collision at the hands of a man who detectives said was impaired.      They were heading to Mesa from El Paso to visit Allbee's parents.      Allbee's wife was a passenger. She survived the crash. It happened in Bylus, Ariz.

    Man shot by EPPD officer in downtown El Paso

    El Paso Police say a bicycle officer shot a man who pointed a weapon at them while responding to an assault call in Downtown El Paso Saturday night. The shooting happened at the 400 block of E. San Antonio Ave., near The Tap bar and restaurant. The call came in just after 11 p.m. The suspect was transported to University Medical Center with a gunshot wound, but he is expected to survive.

Stanley called the El Paso Police Department on a recent Friday morning, saying he intended to cause a mass shooting and that he wanted to die by suicide, according to a state custodial death record. Stanley, 27, told police he was intoxicated and firing a gun near Interstate 10 and along Thunderstorm Drive on Jan. 15.

    A 23-year veteran of the El Paso Police Department has died of COVID-19, according to Dist. 7 City Rep. Henry Rivera. He is the first officer in the department to pass away from the virus. Detective Camerino Santiago passed away early Monday morning, according to the El Paso Police Department. Samaniego was assigned to Internal Affairs.

Camerino Santiago, a detective for the police department, is the first police law enforcement officer to die from the virus, said representative Henry Rivera. Santiago was 67 years old. He was looking to retire at the end of January, stated Rivera.
